Instructor Methodology - Training of Trainers (NOVA Defense) (ID0001)

Full Description

The Training of trainer’s class being taught is a P.O.S.T. approved training course which is a requirement for teaching basic academy classes and for skills areas within the training environment. While this is not a current requirement for in-service training in Colo. at this time it is highly recommended for in-service trainers as well. This class is involves an in-depth look at the development of professional lesson plans, writing performance objectives and how to meet and measure those objectives and much more. We will cover many of the following topics of instruction and more:

  • Adult learning styles, and its relevance to the trainer in designing classes
  • Preparation of Performance objectives
  • Training methods for the law enforcement trainer
  • One on one training strategies for the trainer
  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Preparing course lesson plans
  • Liabilities involved in law enforcement training
  • Development of testing and evaluation instruments for training classes.

The cost for this training class is covered under the Colorado Peace Officer Standard & (POST) Training Grant provided to the Central Mountain Training Foundation (CMTF). There is no cost for Colorado State Certified Peace officers to attend. Non-Cert. Officers may attend this class; however, they cannot displace a certified Peace Officer.  Non-Sworn Officers are not confirmed a seat in the class until 12 working days from the start of the class.  At this time we will make every attempt to fill all training seats with both sworn and non-sworn personnel. Please watch the web site for conformation in the class. CMTF has priority.

Class Details
Each student attending this class is expected to bring with them the following
1. Note Taking material (Power point format)
2. Students will need to bring a laptop with them for use in the class along with a spare flash drive 
        a. The book for this class will be on flash drive and will be given to each student on the first day of  the class.  
        b. The computer will need to support the following: download a PDF file, & Power Point. 
3. Students will need to have a topic would like to develop into a class and with that each student will need the supporting material; research material, data, related policies and or laws related to the delivery impact of the class 
4. This material will be used to develop a comprehensive presentation in class.
5. The objective of this class is to instruct students in the process of building a comprehensive training program
