Central Mountain Training Region


OCTOBER  10-14, 2022 (44 hours) 

This 40-hour, Colorado POST-approved, Handgun Instructor Certification course is designed to provide law enforcement officers the necessary skill and knowledge to develop and operate a law enforcement firearms/handgun program for their agencyand/or assist teaching handgun skills in a police academy setting.

Students will be required to pass the Colorado POST Handgun Qualification Course on day one of training (two attempts). Failure to pass the qualification will result in removal from the course.

Students must be a current sworn Law Enforcement Officer.

Students will learn how to develop and maintain a law enforcement firearms program, manage, and operate firearms ranges, instruct handgun skills, diagnose shooting errors, and make sustainable corrections in other shooters. 

The cost for this training class is covered under the Colorado Peace Officer Standard & (POST) Training Grant provided to the Central Mountain Training Region (CMTR). There is no cost for Colorado State Certified Peace officers to attend.  Non-Cert. Officers may attend this class; however, they cannot displace a certified Peace Officer.  Non-Sworn Officers are not confirmed a seat in the class until 12 working days from the start of the class.  At this time, we will make every attempt to fill all training seats with both sworn and non-sworn personnel. Class Details

Each student attending this class is expected to bring with them the following

Duty Handgun with 3 magazines

Duty Belt and Holster

Ballistic Vest (optional)

Laptop computer

Hat, Ear/eye protection (clear and sumglasses)


Weapon Mounted Light (optional)
